The vast glowing Strala-Forests of the Lowlands were a magnificent sight: sparkling golden-green leaves gave them a brilliant shine, even at night.
Feeding from these nutritious leaves the Vaxtatare developed a long neck and six highly specialised limbs, each equipped with a flexible claw, allowing them to graze the trees without ever leaving the canopy (except for the rather complicated mating procedure of course). After having laid six to nine eggs, the female spins a fine and highly poisonous protective web, leaving the young for themselves.
Finding Vaxtatare's chewy meat rather inedible, the first humans to invade the land concentrated on extinguishing its natural enemies, leaving Vaxtatare to graze the glowing forests in peace.
After aeons of subsisting only on Strala-Trees, Vaxtatare's highly specialised digestive tract wouldn't handle any other diet, the result of which was the fast and complete destruction of Vaxtatare's natural habitat.
Today only the still glowing excements remind of the once large population.
